Senior Pictures in Southeast Kansas That Actually Looks Like You
A fully guided senior portrait experience for seniors who don’t want stiff poses, cookie-cutter locations, or photos that feel like everyone else’s.
You show up as yourself. I’ll guide the rest.
The AKP senior experience
Senior year goes fast.
Let's slow it down.
You’re watching your senior grow into someone truly remarkable. And in the middle of all the deadlines, decisions, and emotions, you want portraits that actually feel like them.
- Not a stiff pose in a field.
- Not a generic backdrop.
- Not a session that leaves everyone feeling awkward or uncomfortable.
At AKP, we start with your senior. Their personality, their style, their interests, their
activities, and the things that make this year feel like theirs. Then we build the session around that.
- The outfits.
- The locations.
- The feeling of the whole session.
Not the other way around.
That’s why every AKP senior session is fully guided from beginning to end. You don’t have to know which outfits will photograph best. Your senior doesn’t have to know how to pose. I’ll take care of it all and walk you both through each step.
What you’ll walk away with is more than beautiful images. You’ll have the truest version of who your senior is right now.
And twenty years from now, when you walk down the hallway and see those portraits, you’ll remember that smirk. That laugh. That quiet confidence that was always there, just waiting to be seen.
HEY, SENIOR, THIS PART IS FOR YOU
Most senior photos look like everyone else’s. Yours don’t have to.

Scroll through senior portraits from almost any school, and you’ll start to notice it.
- Same field.
- Same poses.
- Same backdrop.
- Same everything.
That’s not a knock on anyone. It’s just what happens when the session is built around a formula instead of the senior.
Your senior is not a template. They’re not a trend. They’re a person with their own personality, their own story, and their own way of showing up in the world.
That’s what we photograph.
You don’t have to know how to pose.
Most seniors walk in thinking they’re awkward in front of a camera.
Most of them walk out saying, “That was actually fun.”
That doesn’t happen by accident.
You don’t have to feel photogenic. You don’t have to know what to do with your hands. You don’t have to show up with confidence already figured out.
That’s my job.
I’ll guide every pose, every expression, and every little movement so you never have to wonder what to do next. You don’t have to perform. You don’t have to pretend. You just get to show up as yourself, and I’ll take care of the rest.
No modeling experience required.
You don’t have to know how to pose, move, or look at the camera. I’ll show you everything.
No cookie-cutter locations.
We’ll choose locations that match your style, your personality, your activities, your sport, or the places that actually mean something to you.
No awkward forced smiles.
The goal is for your portraits to feel natural, confident, and completely like you.
No figuring it out alone.
From outfits to locations to posing to choosing your favorites, I’ll walk you through the whole thing.
How it works
Every AKP senior session follows a clear path from start to finish. You’ll always know what comes next.
01. The Planning Appointment
Before we ever pick up a camera, we sit down and talk. What does your senior love? What feels like them? What outfits make sense? What locations tell the right story? Together, we’ll plan the outfits, locations, and overall feel of the session so you show up on portrait day feeling prepared, not overwhelmed. Nothing is left to figure out in the morning.
02. The Guided Session
You arrive, and I take it from there. I’ll guide every pose, show your senior what to do, and keep the session moving in a way that feels relaxed and fun. They won’t be left standing there wondering what to do with their hands. Most seniors tell me it was way more fun than they expected. That’s where the real images happen.
03. The Reveal and Ordering Appointment
After your session, we’ll look through your images together in person. You won’t be sent an overwhelming gallery and left to figure it out on your own. I’ll help you narrow down your favorites, choose what you love most, and decide how you want to enjoy your portraits.
- No overwhelm.
- No guesswork.
- No sitting at home wondering what to pick.
04. Your Walnut Image Box
Your portraits come home printed and ready to hold in a beautiful walnut image box.
- Not just files on a hard drive.
- Not just images that get forgotten on a phone.
These are portraits your senior can keep on her dresser, take with her into the next chapter, and come back to when she needs to remember who she is.
No awkward required.
A senior mom came to me, wanting to do something special for her son. She told me he loved Elvis, and I suggested we go to Memphis and photograph at Graceland, on the replica soundstage from the movie Elvis, and throughout the museum. He was a huge fan, and his mom was shocked. I suggested and said I would travel to create a unique story for her son.
That session is what every AKP senior session should be. Built around who your senior actually is.
Not a template.
Not a trend.
Them.
I don’t just photograph seniors. I photograph people.
For moms who know this season goes fast.
One minute, they have a backpack that’s bigger than they are. Next, they are ordering graduation announcements.
Senior year has a way of sneaking up on you. There are deadlines, decisions, lasts, firsts, and so many emotions packed into one short season.
These portraits are not just for right now.
They are for ten years from now, when you want to remember exactly who she was in this season. The way they laughed. The way they carried themselves. The little expressions you know by heart.
My job is to make this easy and meaningful for both of you.
So you never look back wishing you had done more.
"Senior portraits aren't about looking good for a camera. They're about a senior seeing herself, maybe for the first time, the way the people who love her see her every single day."
— April Kroenke, Certified Master Photographer

Want to be part of something before senior year?
The AKP Creator Team is a small group of junior girls who get a head start on their senior experience.
They build confidence in front of the camera, develop their personal style, and come into senior year already knowing how this whole thing works.
Two Creator Team moms have pulled me aside a year later to tell me how differently their daughters carried themselves after being part of the team.
That’s what the Creator Team is really about.
Yes, there are fun shoots. Yes, there are beautiful images. But underneath all of that, it’s about helping girls see themselves with a little more confidence before senior year even begins.

Want something bigger?
For the senior who has a place in mind.
A city that calls them.
A location that matters.
A story that doesn’t fit into a local session.
Kansas City. Memphis. London. Wherever the story lives, I’m willing to talk through what it could look like.
If your senior has a dream location, let’s start there.
You're in good hands.
When you book an AKP senior session, you’re not booking someone who photographs a little bit of everything for everyone.
You’re booking a senior portrait specialist who has spent more than 30 years learning how to help people feel comfortable, confident, and seen in front of the camera.
I’m a Certified Master Photographer & Photographic Craftsman through Professional Photographers of America and a nationally recognized Hot 100 Senior Photographer. I’ve been doing this since the darkroom, since film, and since fully manual cameras.
That foundation is what makes every session feel smooth, guided, and worth it.
Your senior deserves more than a quick session and a gallery of images to sort through on their own.
They deserve to be guided well, photographed beautifully, and reminded of who they are in this once-in-a-lifetime season.

Photos That Last Longer Than Trends
Trends fade. These don’t.
"I really enjoyed the entire process of taking my senior pictures! I felt comfortable and had a lot of fun during the shoot. The pictures themselves were wonderful & filled me with confidence!"
HANNAH JONES, Yates Center Senior

Questions You Probably Have
Let's talk through it.
My senior says she hates having her picture taken. Will this still work?
Yes. That is one of the most common things I hear before a session.
I’ll guide her the whole way through. I’ll show her how to stand, where to look, what to do with her hands, and how to relax into the moment. Most seniors are surprised by how easy and fun it feels once we get started.
They don’t have to come in confident. I’ll help her get there.
How far in advance should we book?
Most families book 2 to 4 months before they want their session.
Summer and fall dates usually fill first, especially if you need portraits finished by a yearbook deadline. If you have a specific season, location, or deadline in mind, it’s best to reach out early so we can plan with plenty of room.
What if my senior doesn’t know what to wear or where to go?
That is exactly what the planning appointment is for.
We’ll talk through her style, what she feels good in, what photographs well, and what locations make sense for the story we want to tell. She does not have to come in with a full plan. That’s my job.
Do you do destination sessions?
Yes, if your senior has a place that matters to them, I would love to talk through what that could look like. Whether it’s a favorite city, a meaningful location, or a once-in-a-lifetime senior portrait trip, we can plan a session around the story you want to tell.
Why a walnut image box instead of just digital files?
Because printed portraits matter.
A hard drive can get forgotten. A gallery link can expire. A phone gets replaced.
But a walnut box filled with printed portraits of someone you love? That gets held. Opened. Looked through. Taken to college. Shared with grandparents. Kept for years.
Every collection includes digital downloads because you deserve both. But the printed portraits are what make it feel real.
Do you serve communities outside of Iola?
Yes. I photograph seniors throughout Southeast Kansas, including Humboldt, Chanute, Garnett, Parsons, Fort Scott, Coffeyville, and the surrounding communities.
If you’re in Southeast Kansas and looking for senior portraits that feel a little more personal, you’re in the right place.
Let’s tell their story.
